Description
Delicately carved with an emphasized taper, this rare Gambian bougarabou has a super deep bass, and lots of melody in the tones and slaps.
About the Shell & Hide
This Bougarabou was hand carved from Dougara. Dougara is a less common timber, similar to lenke in density but typically carved lighter. This wood usually has lighter chocolate brown tones and features the full tonal range of sound, usually sounding somewhere between a lenke and a khadi Guinea carve.
Thick skins are rich and warm and once settled they have a very melodic quality. Cow skins are typically a lot thicker than goat, offering rich melodics. Suited to experienced players with tougher hands and well developed technique. We take care to find the best hide for the shell to maximise its dynamic range.
Exclusivity
The first tier in the hardwoods, the density of these shells provides noticeable depth of sound. Extra finishing time put into playing edges and exterior detailing.
